Begin With Discipline, End With Success

Photo by Clique Images on Unsplash

In order for your thoughts and ideas to come to life, you must have discipline. Discipline is developing a steady behavior by practice. Without discipline, you won’t get very far in your efforts.

There are a few ways you can enhance your discipline skills. Depending on your goals, discipline can be very easy or very difficult.

Eating ice cream everyday is a discipline. It’s not a good discipline, but it is a behavior that was practiced and maintained. Actually, it takes more discipline to stop eating ice cream everyday.

Exercising everyday is also a discipline, but in this case, a hard one to practice and continue. You need more concentration to enforce this habit, because it’s not as easy or fun.

No matter what the habit is, discipline is needed to constantly reinforce it. We think of discipline as something hard to do, but in the long run, it’s a great quality to develop.

  1. Create a schedule. You can’t go wrong with this. Everyday, at a certain time, do your task. Improve yourself everyday at that specific time. Read a book, every night at 8pm, instead of watching that reality TV show. Work on your master plan every morning at 5am, instead of sleeping in. If it promotes your self-improvement, make time for it.
  2. Use positive reaction. Let’s say you’re trying to drink 8 glasses of water a day, but it’s just so hard to do. In this case, find something around you that will trigger you to drink. Every time your phone rings, drink. Every time someone says your name, drink. Every time you smile at someone, drink. This will encourage small wins throughout your day, towards a bigger purpose.
  3. Remove distractions. Developing strong discipline requires you to put yourself in a better environment. Wherever you find distractions that pull you away from your goal, remove it. Don’t walk down the ice cream aisle in the grocery store, if that’s what you’re trying to avoid. If you’re trying to stop sleeping in, set your alarm clock to the most annoying sound to wake yourself up.
  4. Eliminate excuses. Making excuses is the main reason why discipline doesn’t work. You are in control of what you do and how you do it. Where there are excuses, there is no discipline. There is no reason why you are unable to win, when it comes to building a positive routine that leads to success. You are responsible for driving your life. When you stop making excuses, discipline can take you to the next level.

These are only a few ways to develop your discipline muscle, but you can come up with more custom ways that work for you.

Once you master one habit through discipline, start another one. Not only does it reinforce your productivity, it will definitely lead to many accomplishments.

It takes effort to be disciplined. Grow towards your potential today by starting small and sticking with it!

The Art of Rising

Photo by Paola Aguilar on Unsplash

We all have potential -it’s there. There’s always an option, if we choose to use it. When we are faced with that opportunity, what do we do? Walk away, ignore it or embrace it?

Throughout life, we experience different situations and circumstances. Some situations and circumstances may be similar, but for the most part, no two are alike. Either you do the right thing or make the best choice.

Your decision should always involve moving forward (and doing the right thing). Sometimes, you get stuck – it seems too hard to do it the right way or it may cause you to have to start over.

Be a helium balloon. Practice the art of rising. It’s a great habit to develop and will keep you on the path of daily improvement.

  1. Rise to the occasion. If you have an opportunity to do something different, make the attempt to do it. Backing away only enhances your ability to be more stubborn and stagnant. When you’re stubborn and stagnant, nothing happens. You’re here to live life and to experience the best of it, not to watch it pass by and regret it later. After you try it, if the opportunity is not for you, at least you know from experience.
  2. It’s your fault if you stay down. Life happens. None of us likes to be knocked down, especially when we’re in a good place. Things can happen out of your control, but it’s not a sign to give up. When life knocks you down, your job is to get back up – not to get comfortable and stay there. If you don’t do anything to improve your situation, it’s your fault. Use your resources to get to where you want to be.
  3. Rise everyday. Allow growth in your life. Aspire to something greater than you are now. Make it a daily practice to do better than yesterday. Be a better person and improve upon yourself on a regular basis.

The art of rising contributes to your personal progress. It forces you to be responsible for your own life. Too many times, we leave it up to others to guide and control how we live.  Why let someone else write the book on your life?

Step up your game and play your part. Stop allowing others to determine your fate, just because it happened that way to someone else. You’re not someone else, you are a person who continuously bounces back, like a helium balloon!

Rise. Create and follow the path for your life. The fault isn’t in falling down – the fault is in staying down and not rising.

Learning To Self-Educate

Photo by Marvin Meyer on Unsplash

Once we graduate from school, most of us are glad to get out of the mundane, everyday cycle of sitting in a class, taking tests and doing homework.

Traditional school is the basis of your learning. It’s not perfect, but for the most part, it teaches you the fundamentals to get along in the world.

The path to education has changed the learning landscape now. Learning is no longer limited to a school building. Although this is the way we still provide education, it extends beyond that.

The internet has changed the education game. Twenty years ago, you couldn’t go to school online or listen to an in-depth podcast on what you like to do. Sometimes, when you’re inside the change that’s happening in real time, it’s hard to realize the benefits around you.

It doesn’t take any effort to learn anything, today. Back then, you had to learn AT school or ON the job.

Today, you can learn anything from the internet. You can Google it, watch the YouTube video or listen to the podcast.

Somewhere in that little device, is the answer to your question.

You want to learn how to install a car engine? Youtube it. You want to repair your credit? Listen to a credit repair podcast. You need a little inspiration, motivation or you feel stuck? Go to the Goalden Lady website.

No matter what it is, the answer is accessible – it’s there and it’s free! Don’t limit yourself by being stubborn and doing it the old way. There are so many options and possibilities now, it’s ridiculous, but it’s ridiculously great!

If anything, the internet has made learning more interesting and fun. It’s beneficial to everyone, on all levels. The best thing we can do today is take advantage of it. Gone are the days where you have to call, sit and wait for someone’s help. Today, you can grow and make progress on your own.

Make a decision to open yourself up and take a chance at becoming better. Achieving your goals still takes hard work, discipline and focus on your part in order to see success. The path of action may not be easier, but having (and using) access to your resources gives you more of a head start.

Keep learning. Self-education is key. We are no longer confined to a ‘one way only’ system. You can do so much more with technology today. You have the power, literally, in your hands. Learn it and leverage it.

Be Happy Now

Photo by Ben White on Unsplash

No one knows how long they have left in their life. We have a habit of procrastinating and putting certain things off, thinking it will be better in the future.

Because we have lived this long, we always think there’s tomorrow. This works for having a plan and setting goals, because goals take time to accomplish, but there are some things that can happen now, like your happiness.

Being happy is a simple thing. It doesn’t have to be something big and elaborate in order for us to enjoy the moment.

Happiness can be a baby’s smile, a corny joke, or simply waking up in the morning.

Sometimes, people will tie happiness to an event.

  • “I’ll be happy when I get a raise.”
  • “I’ll be happy after I lose 10 pounds.”
  • “I’ll be happy if he even looks at me!”
  • “I’ll be happy if I get that car.”

Happiness can come from the result of something happening in your favor, but that’s not the extent of true happiness.

What about the smell of chocolate chip cookies baking in the oven or a hot shower after a hard workout? A cup of hot tea in the morning or putting on warm clothes, right out of the dryer? These are basic, everyday things that bring a moment of bliss into a busy life.

It’s not wrong to be happy once you have achieved your goals, but you can still allow happiness until that time comes.

Putting off your happiness can contribute to your overall well-being in a negative way. It doesn’t help being a grumpy person, blaming others and complaining about everything. Not only will other people not want to be around you, but you start to become dependent on other things to bring you happiness.

Happiness does not come from the outside. It is your choice to be happy and content. Other people will try to steal your joy, but don’t let them. They want you to be unhappy because they’re unhappy. By all means, don’t fall into that trap!

You are responsible for your happiness. Yes, joy may come from outside things, but that’s not the source of your joy. Before you walk out into the world, you determine your outlook for the day. It’s in your control, so why not start out happy?

Don’t delay being happy until something happens. Be happy in the meantime! It doesn’t have to be attached to a result. Find those little things that bring you peace of mind and joy on any given day.

Make The Decision To Believe In Yourself

Photo by Martin Sattler on Unsplash

If you are the type of person who has no problem with believing in yourself, you’ve pretty much already won at life. For those of us who have a bit more trouble…

Are you aware of this massive power that you have in your possession? Everyday when you wake up, you can decide to be as courageous or as cowardly as you want to be.

Some of us allow outside influences to make that decision for us, so we just go with the flow. Whatever happens, happens.

There are others of us who make that decision every single day and we choose to be as happy and confident as we want to be. Nothing’s going to bring us down — we can handle it!

Why can’t we all be that way?

We are all born into different environments. Some grew up in a loving, forward-thinking home and others grew up in a negative, stagnant way of thinking home.

When your surroundings are positive and motivating, it’s easy to believe in yourself. Everyone is always rooting for you and they acknowledge your efforts.

When your surroundings are negative, there is no acknowledgement for anything. Everyone is stuck in the same place, with the ‘it’s always been like this,’ mentality. The possibility of doing any better is nonexistent.

Although your environment doesn’t determine your outcome 100%, it does play a major part.

It’s hard to go against the grain in a bad environment. The easy way out would be to accept what everyone else is doing and continue to ‘go with it.’

The harder thing to do is be proactive. Even when people say negative things to you 20 times a day, you find a way to turn it around.

  • “I won’t give in.”
  • “I can break the cycle.”
  • “I can do better than this.”
  • “I don’t want to end up like them.”

This is what pushes you ahead. Although they keep telling you that you’re no better than them, you believe that you are and you can do better.

On the other hand, some people believe in themselves so much, they abuse it and think they can do whatever they want.

When you become used to things turning out in your favor, your efforts can become lazy. You don’t stop after success happens — you have to put in even more effort to keep it going.

As you can see, your environment can work for you or against you. Some people want to break out of their negative environment so bad, they do the total opposite of what’s around them.

Others come from such a positive environment, they expect people to believe in them everywhere they go. When they come across a set of people who really don’t care, they become depressed and fall into a trap of believing what others say about them.

These scenarios don’t happen with everyone, but again, the environment does have an effect on a person’s self-belief.

Let’s teach our children to believe in themselves, no matter what others say or think about them. Teach them that everyone is not going to be encouraging of everything they do. Some people will tease them just to get under their skin.

Most of all, teach them that their self worth is not determined by what others think. Believing in yourself can be difficult, but with the right foundation and mindset, we can push ourselves farther than our thoughts can take us.

Just make that decision every morning. I am courageous. I am beautiful. I am helpful. I am worthy. I am powerful.

Don’t wait for permission (you don’t need it) or for somebody else to tell you (you know it better than they know it). Believe it!

Help! I’m Stuck: How To Increase Your Energy, Master Your Money and Control Your Time

Help! I’m Stuck, Book 3

As a senior in college, I had three jobs. Two jobs were paid and one was an internship. As a full-time college student, there was a lot on my plate.

I went to school Monday through Friday. I worked during the week and on the weekends, as well. It was a nonstop schedule, but I liked the challenge of making it work.

Back then, my energy wasn’t a problem. You wouldn’t hear the words, “I’m tired,” come from my mouth. We were college students, who had time to be tired?

When I went out with friends, I always had money – my money. I never had to wait on my parents to send me money or bug them about it. With two paying jobs, I was financially set (at least as a college student).

I had to plan my time carefully. There wasn’t any room for forgetful mistakes. Monday, Wednesday and Friday, I went to class from 8am to 2pm. Afterwards, I would do homework and catch the bus by 4pm to go to work.

On Tuesdays and Thursdays, I had classes from 8am to 11am. I would go to my internship from noon to 4pm.

After work during the week, I would go to the library and study from 9pm until it closed at midnight.

On Saturday and Sunday, I worked from noon to 6pm. This was my schedule for an entire year.

Fast Forward To Now

When I think back on how I managed it all, it amazes me. If you asked me to do that same schedule today, it would surely be a challenge.

Things have changed over the years. Since technology has made most things easier, it seems as though life should become easier.

Instead of physically going to three jobs, seven days a week, I probably could’ve worked from my dorm on a computer. Maybe, instead of waiting for the bus, I could’ve called Uber. Going to the bank to deposit my check could have been replaced with direct deposit.

All of these things could have saved me energy, money and time. It sounds easy in theory, but we still have a tough time with these things today.

Making the Most Out of Your Energy, Money and Time

Your energy, money and time are the most important habits to develop in life. Not only can distractions take up your time and drain your energy, if you’re not careful, it can cost you money, too.

Being responsible with your energy, time and money can be beneficial. Everything you do in life, at some point, will intersect with at least one of these qualities. Having low energy, no money and no sense of time, will stall any progress you intend to make.

Also, it sets a solid foundation for your work ethic. It allows you to be dependable, trustworthy and responsible. You’ll have the ability to take on any situation, in a professional manner.

All of these qualities don’t happen on their own. Like anything else, it will take discipline and focus to reach your desired results. As you practice these skills, it will give you the confidence towards building a better you.

3 Things You Never Want To Waste

As you get older, you’ll learn there are 3 things that will slip away from you, if you aren’t careful.

Energy

Having the ability to do something for a period of time, without easily being worn down, is energy. There is physical energy and mental energy.

The good thing about both types of energy, is that it can be replenished. If you become tired, all you need to do is rest or get some sleep. Like a cell phone, you’ll charge back up and be ready to go!

You’ll want to direct your energy towards the most important things throughout the day. We experience peak energy times at various points and should take advantage of them.

Eating healthy and exercise contributes to our energy levels. Food is fuel for the body. Sometimes, we can get sidetracked by how good something tastes and indulge a little too much. This is what slows us down in our day-to-day actions.

Food is meant to give us energy. It helps to carry us through the day, even when stress is present.

Mental energy can be regulated, as well. When it comes to making decisions, our mental energy can easily become depleted. Routines and rituals can help preserve your mental energy for more difficult decisions.

Protecting your mind from negative energy is a habit that demands constant practice. It gives you a chance to improve and to become the ultimate thought leader.

Money

Being attentive to your finances will serve you well in life. The earlier you learn to control your money, the better off you’ll be.

People have different opinions about money. Some view it in a negative way, while others see the opportunity it can provide.

Money is versatile. It has the ability to support your lifestyle and to help you achieve goals. No matter how you see it, money is a resource that could help or harm any situation. In this book, we will learn how to manage it for our benefit.

The good thing about money is, if you lose it, you can always make more. As long as you apply the knowledge that guided you in the first place, you should never be broke.

Time

Time is the only resource that cannot be replaced. You can rest to restore your energy and you can replace money by working. No matter what you do, time cannot be captured, nor recovered.

The only way you can rewind or fast forward time is on a recording. It is a measurement that keeps going at a steady pace everyday, yet, it never stops.

We all depend on time. From the moment we wake up, to the moment we fall asleep, there are countless responsibilities that need to be handled. Without it, we wouldn’t be nearly as productive.

People always tend to put things off until tomorrow. Think of how much time has been wasted, every time we say that. Time doesn’t consist of ‘rollover minutes.’ Once it’s over, there’s no way to get it back. Therefore, we should learn how to use it wisely.

These are the 3 things that will carry you through all aspects of life, from beginning to end. Depending on how you respond, these habits will determine how easy or hard your journey will be.

We’ve all heard people say:

“I wish I had more energy.”

“I wish I had more money.”

“I wish I had more time.”

This doesn’t have to be you. Learn how to maximize your energy, money and time. The earlier you learn this, the better off you’ll be. Even if you’re older, you can still learn how to save it all.

Once you get these 3 habits down to a science, your quality of life will improve. The foundation you are building will make you mentally and physically stronger, financially capable and mindfully conscious. You will become the person you’ve always wanted to be.

Let’s start your journey.

The Slow Process of Success

Photo by Jeremy Bishop on Unsplash

How many times have you seen other people around you succeed? When will it happen to you? How did they achieve their goals so fast? What’s the secret?

Every time you look up, someone else has the success you crave. They seem to have it all together and everything is working out for them – they have no worries.

In the meantime, you’ve been struggling. You’ve been trying to figure out algorithms and marketing strategies. This has been going on for 2 weeks now. It’s just not happening for you.

The reality is, success is a slow process. There are very, very few people in the world who achieve their dreams in 2 weeks. It just doesn’t happen that quickly.

“Yes, it does!” you say. “How come everyone is successful around me and I’m not?”

First of all, you didn’t see their process. No one notices you until you’re successful. Up until then, it was failure after failure. Money was running out. Things didn’t work. They started over hundreds of times. Yes, all of that happened, but that doesn’t register with you because all you see is the end result.

Secondly, it takes time. When you plant a seed, it doesn’t fully bloom the next day. You must water it, care for it, sing to it, keep it’s soil healthy, and keep the weeds away. Eventually, it will blossom into a beautiful flower. It’s the same with success. You must nurture the process along the way to secure a solid outcome.

Third, the secret is consistently taking action. Nothing happens if you sporadically work on your goal. Doing it here and there, with months in between, won’t get it. Everyday, you must take a step. Sometimes, that step will extend into the next day, or it might even break. That’s not a hint to stop, but a hint to fix it and keep moving forward.

Understand that success is very possible.

It’s all in your mind. If you decide to be persistent and take action everyday, it will happen. When you make the commitment to succeed, you will realize that the journey is more valuable than the result.

Get into the habit of going through the process of success. It’s what champions of the world do. Successful people acknowledge other successful people and say, “Wow! You went through all of that?! How did you do it?” They admire the growth and the evolution that it took to get there.

Average people say, “Wow! They’re lucky!” They only recognize the outcome and aren’t able to see  the daily practice and time consumption that it took. They don’t comprehend that luck is a byproduct of taking action.

Don’t cheat yourself – give it a chance. Overnight success takes years. Find something you want to accomplish and be willing to put in the time, thinking and action that it requires.

Then, and only then, will you reach success.

Organize Your Overwhelm

Photo by Simson Petrol on Unsplash

There are a million things that need to get done. It can flood our minds to the point where we become stagnant and we won’t get anything done. You silently hope that something will give, so there will be one less thing to think about.

Being overwhelmed is mental weight. If not managed correctly, it will zap your mental energy throughout your entire day because you can’t stop thinking about all the things that need to be done. You know you can do it, but it’s so much, it feels like you’re stuck and you don’t know where to start.

Overwhelm is a major cause of self-care denial. We’re so busy doing things for others that we forget about caring for ourselves.

Becoming overwhelmed is a responsibility you have to accept. No one makes you do anything – you make the choice to take on different tasks from different directions. You take on so much that you wear yourself down and that’s not healthy, mentally or physically.

Overwhelm doesn’t have to consume your life. There are a few ways you can break free from your mental prison.

  1. Brain dump. Every evening before bed, do a brain dump. A brain dump is when you write down everything that needs to be done the next day. It declutters your mind from those thoughts that keep popping up in your head. Not only does it relieve mental stress, but you are able to have a more restful sleep. Your mind won’t be overloaded with the things you have to remember to do the next day. Try it out – it works.
  2. Delegate. We all know that you do it the best and no one else can do it better than you. It may be true, but get over it. Some things can be outsourced or delegated. For your mental sake, ask someone else to do it – we know it won’t be to your standards, but for you to make any kind of improvement, you need to let some things go and allow others to do it. It might not be perfect, but the world is still turning.
  3. Write it down. Take a few minutes and write out what you’re going to do  and when you’ll do it. Give it a special time. It doesn’t take long to make a list. The hardest thing will be completing them. Also, when you write it down, you remove some of the burden from your mind – when you complete it, it will be totally out of your mind. Create more space in your mind for other tasks and thinking by writing down what needs to be done and following through.

There’s no magic trick to getting everything done all at once, but you can manage the mental load.

When you get to a place where you feel everything is flowing and under control, it’ll open up some extra time. What can you do with that extra time? Something for yourself.

Suicide: Don’t Overthink Yourself To Death

This message is for anyone who has ever contemplated ending their own life.

I can imagine that there are many factors that contribute to that very thought.

Being positive can be hard. People can be mean and difficult. Things don’t always go the way we want them to go.  Life can be tough. We all have days, weeks and months where nothing is ever right.

You were made to be here and spread your gift. You are not a mistake. Everyone is here for a reason and you must find yours. Don’t give in to those who try to make your life a living hell.

Don’t think you’re alone – you’re not the only one. There are millions of people on this planet that have to make the effort to live their life everyday. They have struggled with the idea of giving up. Please find your strength and make the decision to live.

Talk to someone – there is help for you. Just like anybody else, you deserve to be here. If people are trolling you online, turn off your device. If people are bothering you at school or at work, tell an adult or a superior, or change location.

The opportunities for you to reinvent yourself and simply start over are endless.

Things can change for the better, but you have to believe it and act towards the type of change you seek. Nothing positive can happen without your input. You’re the only one that can make things better. Your life is your responsibility – don’t leave it in someone else’s hands.

The possibilities in life are limitless. Taking your own life only leaves the rest of us to suffer without the wonderful things you have to offer. If your breakthrough was coming tomorrow, would you give up today?

Continue to fight for your life because the best is yet to come. There are people who care about you and actually want you to be here! It’s never worth it to end your life – you’re not finished yet. There is something amazing in all of us. Your struggle may help someone else through their hard time.

Don’t overthink yourself to death – you can get through this. There is a reason you are still here – take it one day at a time and keep living.

This message was written with love. If you need help, please call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline: 1-800-273-8255 or chat online at The Suicide Prevention Lifeline.
