Making progress is a constant struggle, especially when you’re working on your dream. You’re always thinking if you did this right, is it going to work, what if I fall flat on my face in front of everybody, etc.
Don’t give that little voice in your head any authority over your thoughts. It’s there to keep you from great things. Yes, it sucks. It keeps you lazy. It makes you think your idea isn’t good enough. It simply takes away your power before you even begin.
Comparing your beginning to someone else’s ending, does not help you at all. When you downplay your achievements in comparison to others, you’re not being fair to yourself.
“He got a gazillion reviews — I only have 2.”
“She cooks omelets — I can only cook eggs.”
“They’re such a great team – my team sucks.”
Progress Is The Beginning Of Success
Don’t downplay your achievements! Having 2 reviews is a celebration, because before, you had zero. That’s progress! You can make omelets, just flip one side of the egg to the other side and there you have it! Progress! Don’t make it difficult.
We are all learning together, just at different speeds. There is no need to engage in negative self-talk; there are plenty of other people out there who do that for you. Believe in yourself and be confident in your abilities. You have to start somewhere.
Even if one person claps, that’s good! You’ll have to learn to clap for yourself for a long time before anyone else will. When you come up with an idea and begin to explore it, that’s good! Whether you take one step or twenty, that’s good!
IT’S ALL GOOD!!!
It’s progress. It may be tiny, but you are moving the needle, millimeter by millimeter. That’s more than a lot of people move in a year. Progress is progress, no matter how big or small. Be proud that you moved and just keep on moving!
A vision is one way to help you stay consistent with reaching your goals. You hear the ‘gurus’ talk about having a vision (and a vision board), but what does it really take to make it happen?
This is where most people stop. They imagine what they want to be and forget about it, but crafting your vision isn’t something you do only one time. It takes more than a simple, floating thought to manifest your dreams.
Make The Commitment
Again, you hear people say you need a vision to be successful, but what goes into that? Is it just looking at pictures of your dream home and a bunch of money? Of course not – there’s a more intentional way of getting there.
One of the first things you must do is make the decision to commit. If this is your goal, you want to use all of your power to make it come true. Just saying, “I’m going to open my business,” is not enough.
With commitment, you create new habits. You may even think new thoughts in order to make your way towards the achievement that you want. These habits and thoughts are what’s going to support the start of your goal, but only if you commit.
Don’t just say it – be it. If it requires getting up at 5am, get up at 5am. If you’re more productive as a night owl, rearrange your schedule to accommodate a new routine. You don’t have to wait for something to happen – immerse yourself in it and make it happen.
It all starts in your mind. Know what you want to do and be direct with how you’re going to approach it. Commit yourself to the process, just as you would if you were planning your vacation. If something gets in the way (as it will), hold yourself accountable, find a solution and follow through.
Focus On Your Vision
Your mindset has to be focused on getting to your goal. Do the research, make the phone calls or whatever it takes to get you going. It’s your vision – make it real. See yourself working hard, making progress and overcoming potential obstacles. Don’t just see it once a week, see it everyday, several times a day.
To ‘think’ of your vision isn’t enough. Smell the ocean air when you walk onto the balcony of your beachfront home. Feel your feet sinking into the sand as you walk across the ebb and flow of the water. See the sun set as you eat your dinner. Taste the freshness of the seafood that was caught fresh from the ocean, moments before you purchased it.
Your vision involves your senses and your action. None of this will happen if you don’t make any forward movement. You can imagine what it’s like all you want, but making it happen is totally different.
Put a strategy in place to grow your vision. Letting it sit in your head only keeps you in the same place as before. There must be some sort of daily starting point to push the needle towards your dream. Develop a physical strategy that pulls your vision into existence and be proactive.
For example, write down what your vision looks like, along with building your vision board. Make time to read and look at it everyday, when you awake and right before you go to sleep. Research success stories about others who’ve made it in the same industry. Actually do something everyday that promotes your idea. Not just thinking – doing.
Your Success Is Waiting…
The vision is already in your head, it’s just waiting to see the light of day. The only way that’ll happen is if you take baby steps.
Whether your vision is big or small (but it should be big), it needs to be broken down into manageable tasks. These are things that you can do daily to contribute to the bigger picture.
You don’t just lose thirty pounds in a day. Don’t let the size of the vision overwhelm you. Start drinking water in place of soda, or eat an apple instead of chips. The little things are what make the big things happen, but you must take action.
Your vision is done – it’s just waiting on you to fill in the blanks and complete it. All you need is the confidence to commit and follow through with your daily focus. Your commitment may become greater and your strategy may change, but it will lead to that magnificent vision you created for yourself and your future.
Be proactive! Every action you take brings you one step closer!
Living in your phone is the biggest distraction. It’s self-defeating because you know what you’re capable of, but your attention is on what others are doing.
Using electronic devices, such as your phone, is a form of voluntary distraction. Depending on what you use it for, it can have an effect on your daily perspective of life.
Shiny Object Syndrome
With social media, it can be easy to see how other people have success every second. They post pictures of cars and money and it makes you think that you can do it, too. You can, but are you willing to put in the work?
It’s easy to see success, but it’s not so easy to see and accept the work that goes behind it. No one wants to experience the journey, only the results. This is why you’re not accomplishing anything, because you keep hopping around from one thing to another, thinking it’ll make you rich like the other person.
That, in itself, is a distraction. You’re focused on how awesome it would be to have all the friends, cars and the money, but you never get started on the actual path. Even if you do start, if it’s not working, you’ll find something else that’s better (shiny object syndrome) and before you know it, you’ve boarded that train.
Seeing people’s results are distracting, but you must make the decision to follow your own path. Jumping from one thing to the next just because it made one person rich, does not guarantee your success. Stop trying to get rich quick and follow the path you want to take.
It’s Going To Take Time
Once you stop looking for how to get rich quick on social media, then you can begin thinking about what you really want to do.
Some people don’t know what they really like, because they’ve been too busy looking at what other people like. Take a break from others and focus on yourself.
Everything seems to happen instantly on social media, but that’s because no one is publishing their challenges and obstacles. If they did, they might not have such a big following. The process is boring, but the results are exciting.
Understand that when you figure out what you want to do, it’s going to take time. Your journey is unique to you. No one else can go through it for you.
This is why you should do something that you like, or at least, something you’re good at. There will be times when you want to give up, but if it’s something you have the desire to achieve, you’ll have no issues with sticking it out.
Free Your Mind
Take a digital detox day. Turn off your notifications on your phone and pay attention to what’s going on around you. Live outside of your phone for a while.
Having an entire day to yourself without being distracted and controlled by your phone, will allow you to think on a deeper level. You’ll actually start thinking for yourself, as opposed to having a device telling you what to think.
This is how you find what you want to do. Even if the internet is destroyed tomorrow, you would still find a way to achieve your goals.
When you go back to using your devices, instead of using them to see what others are doing, use it as a resource to enhance what you are doing. Social media isn’t all bad – it just depends on how you use it to create your own success.
Achieving success is never easy. Most strategies don’t go as planned and time plays a role in the entire process.
Once you finally reach your goal, you may think it’s over, but it’s not. There’s always another peak to climb and conquer – life doesn’t stop after one major accomplishment.
After I Achieve My Goal, What’s Next?
It took you months, or maybe even years, to be successful with your goal. It feels great and you want to celebrate and live in that particular success forever!
Who wouldn’t want to stay in that moment? You won the game, beat the odds and you’re the champion, but what’s next?
This is a natural feeling after you’ve achieved a major goal in your life. Some people don’t know what to do, but you need to create another challenge for yourself and start the climb all over again.
Your first success is only the beginning. You’re at the peak of this mountain, but now, you have to start hiking the next mountain. When you finally reach the top and look out over the horizon, you see there are more mountains to climb.
Take On Another Challenge
There has to be another challenge to face, or another battle to win. This is what helps you become more productive and builds confidence for your future plans. If you stop after one success, it will quickly fade away.
Think of a singer with a popular song. The song may have been #1 for a few weeks, but sooner or later, someone else will come along and become #1. You don’t want to be a one hit wonder – you want to continue and have more #1 hit songs.
To keep it going, the singer may start to put out their own artists, or maybe cross over into movie soundtracks. Maybe they want to step outside of their talent and open a restaurant, but no matter what, they must keep up the momentum.
Success Isn’t A One Time Event
If you want to be successful, it never stops. After you achieve that goal, there’s more to consider.
You don’t take over the world after achieving one goal. There’s always someone who is working just as hard to overshadow your success. In order to keep making progress, you must find another summit to scale.
Don’t become a ‘has-been’ and continue repeating and remembering that one time in your life. You don’t want to live your life wondering what would have happened. Stretch yourself and see where your new abilities take you.
Success Never Stops
The skills you gain from each success should allow you to take aim at an even bigger target. It never stops.
The most important step to achieving any goal is to just start. Figure things out along the way. You won’t have all the answers in the beginning – it’s all a part of the journey.
The more mountains you climb, the more skills you’ll develop. You’ll put yourself in a position to help others who were once like you and that becomes another form of success.
Validate your potential. You are capable of more than you think, but you’ll never know if you stop after achieving one goal.
