How To Create Success-Building Habits

Success-Building Habits

Having strong habits are important to building your foundation for success. When you have success-building habits, failure doesn’t scare you and setbacks won’t stop you.

Do your habits encourage your growth or hold you back? How can you develop the type of habits that will promote your positive intentions?

Habits That Destroy You

You may have a string of habits that you perform daily, but do they help you move forward?

When most people think of habits, they think of the good habits. On the other hand, there are habits that destroy your progress.

Eating unhealthy food or frivolously spending your money are examples of bad habits. These habits will lead you down a destructive path that will be difficult to recover from. Once you’re in an environment that favors a bad routine, it becomes comfortable to be there.

If you want to be lazy, broke and unintelligent, you’re on the right path. Otherwise, bad habits will stunt your potential. You’ll end up in a negative setting that discourages positive thinking. It’s best to turn those bad habits around, before they become too hard to break.

Constructive Habits

Constructive habits are the good habits – they reward you with success. You take actions that force you towards your intended outcome.

Exercising regularly, saving your money and studying your craft are examples of constructive habits. These habits offer you a chance at achieving your goals.

Instant gratification is not a result of performing constructive habits. If you save money today, you won’t be rich tomorrow. It’s a process that requires patience and dedication.

Most people give up because they don’t see results right away. It’s the same with bad habits – you don’t eat junk food one time and the next day, you’re overweight. It takes time to build a foundation, whether good or bad.

Success-Building Habits

Habits contribute heavily to the outcome of you goals. If you want to be successful at anything, you must perform success-building habits.

Your thinking is the foundation for supporting successful habits. It’s impossible to have negative thoughts and expect a positive outcome. Your mindset is where it all begins, so you must think in a productive manner. If you want to achieve your goal, your thoughts have to support it.

Building success habits also requires repetition. As mentioned before, doing a habit once will not create an automatic result. Repetition is key. Eat healthy for 30 days and you will see improvements with your body. Save money for 30 days and you will see an increase in your bank account.

Create Your Desired Results

By creating your success-building habits now, you will gain more control over your life.

Be responsible and be the example. Instead of waiting for things to happen, be proactive and make it happen. Take ownership of your circumstances and guide your plan to accomplishing your goals.

Having success-building habits can only make things better for you. It promotes action, it helps with overcoming procrastination and it gives you confidence to destroy your self-doubt.

You have a choice: you can be stuck for the rest of your life and live as a victim, or, you can pull yourself up and become what you envision. Choose dedication and begin creating your success-building habits today!

#TBT: Why Worrying Won’t Work

Why Worry Won't Work

When unpleasant challenges arise, the first thing most people do is worry. It’s a reaction that lives on autopilot in your mind, ready to go when needed. Not only does worrying affect you on the inside, it affects how you perceive things on the outside. Worrying is definitely a bad habit you want to break.

Don’t be a Worry Wart

What is a Worry Wart? As soon as something out of the basic routine happens, you begin to stress about it.

  • “What’s going to happen?”
  • “Why did it happen?”
  • “Who did this to me?”
  • “What am I going to do?”

All types of questions, along with several negative emotions, start to run rampant in your mind.

This raises your stress levels. You begin to attempt to answer those questions in your mind. Nothing is working out in your favor. Is there a number to call? Is there someone you can speak to about the situation?

You want answers because you simply don’t know why this is happening to you. Therefore, you just continue to worry because you don’t know what else to do.

Sometimes, it’s simply something that you, the Worry Wart, did to yourself that caused the issue. After that, you can’t be mad and stressed about it anymore. Take responsibility and deal with the consequences.

On the other hand, it may have been a mistake that needs to be corrected. You follow instructions on how to fix the flaw and it’s done. No more worrying because you resolved it.

In both cases, your mind went into a frenzy because you didn’t know what was going on. There’s a way to save yourself from the stress of worrying, but it takes practice.

Control What You Can

When you receive bad news or something happens out of your control, talk to someone or simply do the research. Spazzing out doesn’t help and most of all, it won’t solve your issue.

When you get emotional about things you can’t control, it affects your surroundings, as well. You may take it out on the kids, friends, and you’re unpleasant to be around. You’re just an all around grump until you figure out what’s going on.

That’s the thing – figure out what’s going on. That’s what needs to happen. You’re only making it worse for yourself and those around you.

Learn to respond, instead of react.

When you let your emotions get the best of you, it normally doesn’t end well. Not only does being emotional make it worse, you’re also not solving anything. Nothing gets done.

It’s normal to have an initial emotional reaction. Don’t let it overtake you into worry world. Start thinking about what you can do to help the situation or to solve the issue. Do what you can. If you can’t control it at the moment, leave it alone until you’re able to figure it out.

When you respond, you come out with better results. It works out for you and those around you. Sometimes, you’re unable to do anything about certain situations until a period of time has passed. There’s no need to put yourself and others through hell because in the end, you could be worrying about nothing.

Worrying won’t help. It only takes up your precious time and for some, can even lead to health problems. Do what you can and be calm enough so you can resolve the issue. Decide to respond around your emotions and not in your emotions. If you do this, you’ll have a better handle on taking care of what needs to be done.

The Paradoxical Commandments

The Paradoxical Commandments

People are illogical, unreasonable and self-centered.
        Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
        Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
        Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
        Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
        Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
        Think big anyway
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
        Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
        Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

#TBT: Don’t Make Your Goals Harder Than They Are

Don't make your goals harder than they are

Thinking about chasing our goals and dreams can seem intimidating. There are no instructions on how to get there, so you have to create your own path through trial and error. This causes us to overthink and make the task harder than it really is.

When we scroll through social media, we see endless posts of people who are supposedly successful and living their dream life. They appear to have already accomplished their goals and want to show you how awesome it is.

Living your dream can be awesome, but don’t get caught up with what you see. If you ask half of those people how they got there, most of them are unable to tell you because it’s all fake. They’re living in someone’s dream world, just not theirs.

Getting started is not as hard as you think.

Don’t make it difficult, just because you don’t have a blueprint. If you consider these 3 tips, you will be able to begin your journey and achieve your goals.

  1. Get clear on what you are doing. Your mind is truly your best asset. Use it to think through your plans and set mini-goals along the way. Do your research and find out what you need, just enough to get started. Don’t be indecisive – you want a fair amount of information, but not too much to where you won’t begin. Once you become clear and take action, some of your journey will unfold before you and guide you to what’s next.
  2. Being overwhelmed doesn’t have to happen. Things can seem overwhelming in your mind. When you see someone who has accomplished their goals, your mind instantly thinks, ‘how do I get there?’ You think of all of the things they had to do to get there and it seems like so much. This can lead to procrastination, but remember, if you don’t start, you won’t finish. It’s not going to happen all in one day, but the key is to take the first step.
  3. Distractions will hinder your progress. There are a million distractions around us, waiting for you to give up your attention to them. Whatever takes your attention away from what’s in front of you is a distraction. Recognize what they are and keep them away. When you see or hear it, put it back in it’s place, somewhere where it won’t bother you. Your job is to remain focused on your task, so you can improve your chances of reaching your goal.

Success Isn’t Easy…

…but it’s not that hard, either. When you figure out what needs to be done and stop allowing your feelings and other distractions to get in your way, it’s very obtainable.

Why not think that you are able to do it? Believe in yourself and disable the negative chatter in your head. It’s just as easy to say, “I can do it, ” as it is to say, “I’ll never be able to do it.” Always put your energy towards positive thoughts.

Take Ownership Of Your Choices

Be aware of your outer environment, as well as what goes on in your head. You could be the reason why you haven’t started – it’s not always something on the outside. You are in charge. Make the right decision and believe that you can do it.

You can only blame your circumstances and your upbringing for so long. Be in control of your thoughts and know that it’s not as hard as you make it out to be.

The Number 24 Bus by Paul Hayward

The Number 24 Bus by Paul Hayward

Life is like a journey on the number 24 bus,
So welcome aboard, young one; come, sit here with the rest of us.
Let’s hope you’re going to be on here for more than just a while.
Look out of the window, young one, and enjoy every single mile.

Embrace each milestone, young one, each stop along the way.
Immerse yourself in childhood, each innocent, lovely day.
Think nothing of the future, of the long road up ahead.
Live each second, each minute, each turn of the wheel instead.

Don’t pace the aisle, young one, yearning for miles to pass,
Until you reach the terminus when finally at last,
That day is here, the day for which you’ve really always strived,
The perfect day you’ve longed for when you’ve finally arrived.

Maybe the end of school days or the day of graduation,
That’s when you’ll be happy, when you arrive at that station,
So roll on the miles until that blessed day.
That’s when life will come together; that’s when you’ll make hay.

Or maybe it’s when you meet “the one,” when you settle down.
Yes, that’s the time to celebrate when you reach that town.
Or maybe life won’t really start until a family comes along,
Or is to pray for retirement so really, very wrong?

The journey will be sad at times, for stops will come along,
When those we love will get off; at times we must stay strong,
As we carry on without them, as they pass the baton on,
But they are there outside the bus; they’re never really gone.

So gazing out the windscreen up front at the road as it bends,
Don’t think about tomorrow, wondering where the journey ends.
Instead, look for today’s colors, those shades of greenery,
Of all the hues along life’s road, the breathtaking scenery.

Don’t miss them, young one, planning for the destination.
This bus will not reverse again once it reaches the final station.

#TBT: Focus On Minding Your Own Business

Focus On Minding Your Own Business

Distractions are all around us and that’s where our focus goes. It’s hard to avoid – it’s on your phone, TV and at work. Some businesses are even built around capturing your attention with these distractions.

When we get caught up scrolling through social media and mindlessly watching TV (among other things), we lose ourselves. We think about everything else, except what we’re doing with our own lives.

What Do You Focus On?

Everyone has an opinion. We participate in conversations and listen to what’s happening around us and we automatically have our own version of what we would do in that situation.

Our minds are constantly working. It’s important to have productive discussions on different things, but you don’t have to give a response to everything, all the time.

We’re so used to putting our two cents in about other people’s business that we forget our own. Our focus becomes what we think about what’s going on outside of us, as opposed to what’s going on within ourselves.

Energy Flows Where Attention Goes

This is why celebrities are rich – we constantly give our attention to them, as if it really matters, and they continue to become bigger distractions.

Imagine if you didn’t pay attention to what the president said today. What if you didn’t pay attention to the latest scandal? If you didn’t pay attention to that celebrity and what happened on their yacht?

These are all distractions. When you give away your concentration to things that don’t affect you and your life, it’s a distraction. Yes, it’s entertaining on some level, but some of us forget that we have a life of our own to design.

Giving your attention to something is the same as giving away your energy. It takes energy to focus. Don’t give your energy away to someone or something else to the point where you neglect yourself. Your life deserves to have your energy and attention. Besides, who else is crafting your life, but you?

Be Your Own Distraction

Instead of worrying about why your favorite football player is not starting in the game, focus on why you haven’t started in your own game.

When you direct your focus on something other than yourself, it takes away from your goals. Time is of the essence and we must take responsibility for our actions daily.

This won’t happen if you’re continuously glued to your device. Let your own life be your distraction. Focus on your plan, so you can become successful like the people you are being distracted by.

Concentrate On Your Own Business

If it’s not going to change anything in your life, leave it alone. What Kim Kardashian wore yesterday shouldn’t dominate your thoughts and conversation. She’s not helping you in any way.

You can like her all you want to, but don’t forget about your life, by being wrapped up in her life. She already has her millions – do you have yours?

You are in control of where your attention goes, how you think and your path to greatness. Be confident enough to live the life of your dreams and stop watching others live the life of their dreams. You are worthy of your own focus and success.

You Will Never See Me Fall by Joyce Alcantara

You may see me struggle,
but you won’t see me fall.
Regardless if I’m weak or not,
I’m going to stand tall.
Everyone says life is easy,
but truly living it is not.
Times get hard,
people struggle
and constantly get put on the spot.
I’m going to wear the biggest smile,
even though I want to cry.
I’m going to fight to live,
even though I’m destined to die.
And even though it’s hard
and I may struggle through it all,
you may see me struggle…
but you will NEVER see me fall.

#TBT: Believing In Yourself Is Half The Battle

Believing In Yourself Is Half The Battle

The internet has made a great impact within the last decade, especially with our minds. We are constantly bombarded with ads and comparison posts on social media.

Using the internet in the right way can be extremely productive, but on the other hand, you can easily fall victim to what you see and it’s effects on how you think.

Do you get caught in the ‘comparison’ trap? Are you a better person after you put down your device? Has the internet changed the way you think about yourself?

How Strong Is Your Self-Belief?

Believing in yourself is something that has to be worked on daily. There are times when you may feel a little intimidated, but you must have a solid foundation when it comes to your self-esteem.

The key to believing is building up your confidence. When no one else thinks you can do it, know that you can. Not only that, but practice being your best in everything you do. Creating a habit of high expectations will allow you to stand out from the crowd.

Be mindful of how you do things – as they say, how you do one thing is how you do everything. When you start accomplishing small daily tasks, it’ll carry over into accomplishing the bigger tasks. This is how you develop confidence, which is the path to believing in yourself.

Believing, One Day At A Time

When we see others on social media, everyone looks like they’ve succeeded in life. We begin to wonder, “Why am I not successful?

Most of the people on social media are showing off a fake lifestyle. The money, cars, private jets and vacation spots are props. They do it to make themselves look good, yet, it makes you feel inferior and slow.

Never compare yourself to anyone on social media (or in life). Everyone’s journey is unique to them. You will not get there at the same time as someone else, no matter how closely you follow their plan.

Understand that your success will come in your time. As long as you continue to have the courage to believe in yourself and take it one day at a time, you will make progress and that leads to success.

Believing In Yourself

Your actions also play a big role in believing in yourself. When your mind is set to follow through with a challenge, the next step is being determined enough to take action.

If you don’t believe you can do anything, then you won’t take action. On the other hand, if you have strong self-esteem, you will take action at a high level.

Believing makes way for high performance. Even if you have no one who cheers for you, you have to be your own cheerleader. It doesn’t matter what others think, you already know you can do it.

Build Yourself, Build Your Life

We all want to achieve great things in life, but it takes time and a strong mindset. Great things are very attainable in real life, but first, you must have that foundation of self-belief.

The biggest obstacle you will endure is having no one to tell you how great you are. You possess unlimited potential. Your greatness depends on your confidence to follow through.

Talk to yourself and tell yourself how unbeatable you are. Shine your own light and be magnificent. Never be embarrassed if you lose – you’re only learning so you can be just as effective and efficient the next time.

Don’t wait on anyone else to recognize your excellence. No one needs to tell you how intelligent and capable you are. Believe in yourself and be the example for others to follow.

Don’t Quit

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,

When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,

When the funds are low and the debts are high,

And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,

When care is pressing you down a bit,

Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.

Life is queer with it’s twists and turns,

As every one of us sometimes learns,

And many a failure turns about,

When he might have won had he stuck it out,

Don’t give up though the pace seems slow –

You may succeed with another blow.

Often the goal is nearer than,

It seems to a faint and faltering man,

Often the struggler has given up,

When he might have captured the victor’s cup,

And he learned too late when the night slipped down,

How close he was to the golden crown.

Success is failure turned inside out,

The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,

And you never can tell how close you are,

It may be near when it seems so far,

So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit –

It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.
